MIDWEST ISLAMIC CENTER IN SCHAUMBURG VANDALIZED SECOND TIME IN TWO MONTHS.

Schaumburg, Saturday, August 19, 2006 - Between 11 p.m. last night and 4 a.m. this morning, the Midwest Islamic Center was broken into and vandalized considerably. One of four front doors has been smashed into; the mosque office has been destroyed as was the wall on which the donation box was attached. The donation box itself is still intact but charitable donations are missing from the office. Mosque leaders are unclear if this was a robbery or a hate crime made to look like a robbery. The break in was discovered before dawn when the Imam or religious leader arrived at the mosque for the morning prayer. Police who arrived shortly after recovered a crowbar and sledgehammer from the mosque. Surveillance cameras on site have yet to be viewed.
